The Delaware County Historical Society’s History Under the Stars lecture series returns for the Spring/Summer 2026 season beginning Wednesday, April 15 at 7:40 PM. This free public program brings historians, scholars, and local experts together to share engaging presentations on Delaware County history and related topics throughout the spring and early summer. Lectures will be held outdoors at the Delaware County Historical Society, 9 W. Front Street in Media, PA, and will take place rain or shine (weather permitting). Seating is limited, so guests are welcome to bring their own chairs if desired. The 2026 series features a wide range of topics, from 18th-century brewing techniques and bird nesting habitats to living history at Ridley Creek State Park, Philadelphia sandwich history, Pennsylvania historical markers, and the creation of N.C. Wyeth’s famous Brandywine Museum mural! Housed in the atrium of the Radnor Township Municipal Building, the exhibit features five distinct displays spanning from the Civil War to the Gulf War. Highlights include a tribute to Tom Berry, Delco's first documented professional athlete who served in the Civil War before playing for the original Philadelphia Athletics, a celebration of "Delco's Dutiful Dozen" honoring twelve professional and Olympic athletes of the Greatest Generation who served in World War II, and a commemoration of Korean War-era legends Paul Arizin and Jack Klotz. Come see the novel returned to the Darby Library more than a century late. Clarissa, an English literature classic published in 1764, was lent out in the mid-1800s and didn't find its way home until 1947. The story was so unbelievable it was featured in Ripley's Believe It or Not. Stop by to see this exhibit exploring the remarkable history of this one-of-a-kind volume in the Darby Library collection. William Bartram was a naturalist, explorer, and artist whose writings on American wildlife and landscape made him famous around the world, a child of the Enlightenment whose lyrical prose helped usher in the Romantic era and inspired writers including Walt Whitman and Henry David Thoreau. His father John, born in Darby, helped found the Darby Library in 1743. When William published Travels through North & South Carolina in 1791, he gave his personal copy to this library.
