Media Business Authority: Celebrate America 250 Under the Stars!

Celebrate America’s Semiquincentennial in the heart of the Delaware County seat at Media’s famous Dining Under the Stars in the State Street District! WMMR’s Brent Porche will be broadcasting his show live from Plum Street Park from 4pm until 7pm with a special appearance by CaseyBoy, “the Unofficial Mayor of Delco.” The Philly Fife and Drum Team will perform live along State Street from 5:30pm until 6:45pm, courtesy of Heiler Painting. Other highlights include: America 250 interactive displays from the Delaware County Historical Society. Revolutionary War reenactors in authentic militia uniforms, displaying replicas from the 18th century and sharing military history from the Revolutionary War era. Colonial Farmstead members dressed in colonial attire, sharing and discussing the history of the farmstead. Special patriotic make-it-take-it activities for kids. American music performances by Rockdale Music at the Rafferty Subaru Artistic Performance Space in front of the steps to the Armory.

On July 2, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence. Delaware County’s own John Morton casting the tie breaking vote in favor of revolution. John Adams wrote to his wife Abigail that July 2 “will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival” and that the celebration should include “Pomp and Parade…Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other.”

25 Decades Exhibition Reception

The exhibition is one of three shows the Community Arts Center is Hosting in celebration of USA 250. It features art by 25 artists, each making work related to a specific decade in the USA between 1776 and 2026. The exhibition is on view June 13 - July 17. Upper Darby Independence Celebration & Fireworks

In celebration of America’s 250th Anniversary, Upper Darby will host a festive evening of community, entertainment, and patriotic pride. The event will feature family-friendly activities, carnival games, food vendors, and music, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display honoring 250 years of American history.

All are welcome to kick off the holiday weekend with a 20 minute patriotic themed, firework spectacular plus encore. Parking is free, first come, first served. Spectators are welcome to watch the firework display from Encke Field at Radnor High School or surrounding parking lots and baseball fields. The football stadium will be closed to spectators for this event. The show will be visible up to 600 feet aerially.

Residents will meet across the street from our library clock tower bell at 11:30 AM at 11:55 will watch the raising of the official America 250 flag at at noon. The Bell Tower will ring, the click tower lights will light up red, white, and blue, and all attendees will have little bells to ring at noon.
