Media Business Authority: Celebrate America 250 Under the Stars!

Celebrate America’s Semiquincentennial in the heart of the Delaware County seat at Media’s famous Dining Under the Stars in the State Street District! WMMR’s Brent Porche will be broadcasting his show live from Plum Street Park from 4pm until 7pm with a special appearance by CaseyBoy, “the Unofficial Mayor of Delco.” The Philly Fife and Drum Team will perform live along State Street from 5:30pm until 6:45pm, courtesy of Heiler Painting. Other highlights include: America 250 interactive displays from the Delaware County Historical Society. Revolutionary War reenactors in authentic militia uniforms, displaying replicas from the 18th century and sharing military history from the Revolutionary War era. Colonial Farmstead members dressed in colonial attire, sharing and discussing the history of the farmstead. Special patriotic make-it-take-it activities for kids. American music performances by Rockdale Music at the Rafferty Subaru Artistic Performance Space in front of the steps to the Armory.

On July 2, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence. Delaware County’s own John Morton casting the tie breaking vote in favor of revolution. John Adams wrote to his wife Abigail that July 2 “will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival” and that the celebration should include “Pomp and Parade…Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other.”
