Delaware County Celebrates America’s Independence Day in July 2025
Residents and visitors are invited to join festivities ranging from fireworks, parades and commemorations.
From 1776 to the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with festivities ranging from fireworks, parades and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues.
On July 2, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence. Delaware County’s own John Morton casting the tie breaking vote in favor of revolution. John Adams wrote to his wife Abigail that July 2 “will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival” and that the celebration should include “Pomp and Parade…Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other.”

We will be hosting The Fabulous Big House Band at our brand new amphitheater, located in the rear of the Community Center. Food Trucks will open at 5pm, with the band beginning at 7 PM and ending at 9 PM, just in time for our annual fireworks display which will begin around 9:30 PM at Sun Valley High School.

Everyone is invited to decorate bikes, scooters and strollers and meet at 10:30 AM at Merry-brook Circle to parade into the park, led by Oakmont Fire Company. Prizes will be awarded for best decorations. The festivities will begin in the park at 11 AM, and will include an inflatable slide, games, face painting, a dunk tank and more. Food trucks on-site will include Savannah’s Southern Cuisine and Owl Water Ice and Treats. Cash and Venmo will be accepted by vendors. Attendees are encouraged to stop by the association table for a fun kids’ giveaway and to purchase 50/50 raffle tickets. Guests will be able to cool down before leaving with a “hose down,” compliments of Oakmont Fire Company.

We will parade through the neighborhood ending at Llanerch Park with some light refreshments. Parade leaves from the Llanerch Fire House parking lot at 10:00am or jump in along the route.

The parade begins at 9:00 AM on July 4th and will be followed by a short ceremony at the Penn Wood High football stadium at approximately 10:00 AM.
Parade begins on East Greenwood Avenue turning on Wycombe Avenue and right onto Stewart Avenue to Lansdowne Avenue. The parade continues north up Lansdowne Avenue and right onto Essex Avenue to the Penn Wood High School Football Field.
