Description

Jim Segrave-Daly at Finley House The Penman & The Chancellor: John Dickinson & Robert Livingston Tuesday, June 2 6:30PM As we celebrate America's 250th birthday, join local historian Jim Segrave-Daly for a discussion of John Dickinson & Robert Livingston. Although obscured by their more famous peers, both men played critical roles for decades, during the Revolutionary era, through the early 19th century. With ties locally, both Americans should be celebrated & recognized for their important contributions to America. John Dickinson (1732–1808) was a crucial American Founding Father, a key leader in early resistance against Britain, lawyer and politician, from Delaware and Pennsylvania. Dickinson is known as “The Penman of the Revolution” because he was able to put on paper the thoughts and ideals which formed the foundation for our brand new country. His pen contributed greatly to the American cause by supporting colonial rights and national endeavors. In 1777, Columbia-educated lawyer, Robert Livingston, was named chancellor by the New York Convention of Representatives. Homemade ice cream will be served!

The Finley House is a museum that also has a lovely front lawn under a canopy of large trees. There is parking on the surrounding streets.
