All Delaware County residents are invited to join a Chester MLK Day of Service on Monday, January 15, 2024. This event will be an opportunity to reflect on Dr. King's life and work, while also taking action to improve our community. This event is hosted by Delaware County in partnership with Widener University, Philadelphia Union, the City of Chester, The Downtown Cultural Arts and Technology Center, and America250PADelco.

10:30 a.m. Reflective Day of Worship at Calvary Baptist Church. (1616 West 2nd Street, Chester, PA 19013) From 1948 to 1954, Dr. King attended and served as a Sunday School teacher and youth minister at the Calvary Baptist Church in Chester, while studied at the Crozer Theological Seminary in Upland.

9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Breakfast & Opening Ceremony (Widener University, Lathem Hall, 13th and Potter St., Chester, PA)

10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Peace March (Widener to Avenue of the States to Chester City Hall)

11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Acts of Service - Community Beautification (Downtown Area of Chester and Memorial Park, 2401 W 9th St, Chester) Clean-up groups will be assigned areas of the park and surrounding streets.

12:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Lunch and Community Building Activities (Downtown CAAT Center, 515 Avenue of the States, Chester, PA) After the cleanup, volunteers are invited to the CAAT Center to share lunch and paint collaborative community art pieces and assemble warming kits.

5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Poetry for Peace (Downtown CAAT Center)

Delaware County encourages all residents to observe this day with appropriate civic, community, and service projects in honor of Dr. King.
