America250, in partnership with BNY Mellon, has launched America’s Field Trip—a nationwide student contest inviting young Americans to reflect on what the country means to them through essays, artwork, or videos. Winning students will receive once-in-a-lifetime trips to some of the nation’s most iconic historical and cultural sites. Open to students in grades 3–12, the contest offers 75 first-place winners and their chaperones free travel, lodging, and exclusive behind-the-scenes experiences at places like the Statue of Liberty, Yellowstone, the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian museums, and more. Second-place winners will receive a $500 cash award. “This isn’t just a contest—it’s a chance for students to connect with our nation’s story and imagine their role in shaping its future,” said America250 Chair Rosie Rios. In partnership with Discovery Education, the initiative also provides teachers with classroom toolkits and lesson plans. Submissions will be accepted until May 17, 2024, with winners announced in June and trips beginning in July. To enter or learn more, visit america250.org/FieldTripThis effort is part of the broader America250 campaign—a national, nonpartisan initiative to honor 250 years of American history leading up to July 4, 2026.
