Stakeholders who want to organize programs, events or and activities that promote the stories of traditionally marginalized groups, or are recovering and preserving sites, documents, and narratives important to the fuller history/story of Delco are invited. How will your program ensure we celebrate and amplify lost voices or the underrepresented people and history of Delaware County in America’s 250th?
Our goal is to the most inclusive commemoration in American history - honoring the contributions of all Americans. We are excited to host this meeting at Cheyney University, the first historically black college and university (HBCU) in America!

The Declaration of Independence declared "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." Over our 250-year history, America has continually expanded protections for Americans and advance equal treatment under the law and in our communities.
Today, Delco’s population by demographic includes African Americans (23.4%), Asians (6.5%), American Indian and Alaska Natives (0.20%), and Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islanders (0.10%), and Hispanic or Latinos (4.5%). From 2016-2020, 10.6% of the county population was foreign born.
The journey toward America’s 250th is an opportunity to pause and reflect on our nation’s past, honor the contributions of all Americans, and look ahead toward the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond.
